Privacy Policy

You can use Koko fully without signing up. Without an account, your saved places, recently viewed places and trips live only on your device — we never see them.

Koko uses your device's location on-device to show distances, what's nearby, and to help plan your day. We only send it to our server together with a question you ask Koko AI — in Ask Koko, Near you's "Koko's take", or the trip planners — so the answer can be about places actually near you. It's never attached to an account.

A question that includes your location is never cached — it's answered fresh every time. A question without a location may be cached for up to 6 hours so a repeated question answers instantly; that cache is keyed to the question itself, not to you.

When you ask Koko AI something, the question text, the app's display language, and — if relevant — an island or your location are sent to our server and passed to Anthropic's Claude API to write the answer. We don't build a profile of you from these questions.

An account is optional. You can sign up with a name, email and password (hashed — we never see or store it as plain text), or with Sign in with Apple, which may share a private relay email instead of your real one.

With an account, we store on our server: your trips (and anyone you've shared them with), saved places, recently viewed places, reviews you've written, and your sign-in sessions. Reviews are public and shown next to your display name.

If you report a review, we keep the report — which review, the reason given, and your account, or a one-way hash of your IP address if you're signed out — so we can act on it and ignore duplicates.

Trip reminders, calendar events for your trip (Koko can add these but never reads your calendar), and home-screen widgets stay on your device — we don't see any of it.

Running Koko needs a few service providers: Vercel (hosting), our database host (Neon, for Postgres), Anthropic (to answer Koko AI questions), and Apple (Sign in with Apple, and Apple Maps/WeatherKit on iPhone). Koko runs no analytics. On the website, Vercel BotID (Vercel's bot protection) checks that requests to Koko AI come from a real browser.

We don't show ads, don't track you across other apps or sites, and don't sell your data.

Place details come from OpenStreetMap contributors and can be out of date — owners can claim and correct their own listing. Koko AI's answers can be wrong too. For emergencies, use the numbers on our Essentials page, not an AI answer.

Delete your account any time from the app: Account → Delete account. That immediately removes your sessions, saved places, recently viewed history, reviews, trips you own (including for anyone you'd shared them with) and your membership in trips others shared with you. There's no self-serve deletion on the web yet — email us and we'll delete it for you.

For any other privacy request, use the same email.
